098: Trial by Fire | John Spera

January 31, 2017 //  by Ryan Michler

Stress is something all of us, as men, deal with on a daily basis. And, unless you can find a way to manage the stress effectively, you just won’t be able to show up in the way others are relying on you for.

Firefighter, John Spera with Fit to Fight Fire, joins me to talk about it takes to handle yourself in stressful situations, how to get better at adapting, something he calls belief filtering, and how to build up emotional, mental, and physical resiliency.

“Our desire to be the best has to be stronger than the fear of failing.” Tweet That— John Spera

I am so honored to by interview my friend and someone I’ve followed for a long time, firefighter John Spera.

As I said, he’s someone I’ve been following for some time now and I have been blown away by his work ethic and his ability to lead others especially under stressful situations.

I know we have a lot of men here who listen to this show as firefighters, military members, and other first responders. I’ve got to say that I respect you and anyone who steps into the line of fire, literally in the case of my guest today.

He is a firefighter and paramedic in Aurora, CO and his team was tasked with responding to the Aurora theater shooting in 2012.

He’s going to talk with us a little bit about that experience and the drive he has to be the best he can be – which you’ll hear in his voice when he says, “The level of our training will make the difference between life and death for others.”

“I’m willing to ask tough questions to get those tough answers.” Tweet That— John Spera

Show Highlights

  • How to make better decisions under stress
  • How to simulate realworld scenarios when training

The Uprising

Let me take a quick moment and introduce you to our second live event, The Uprising, which is going to be held April 27th-30th, 2017.

This event is going to sell out quickly (in fact, I believe we only have 8-9 spots left) so, if you’re interested, get signed up quickly at www.orderofman.com/uprising.

In the meantime, I want you to know this event is designed to help you take your life to the next level. Last year was such an incredible event and we decided to up the game a little this year.

We’ll be shooting, doing some tactical scenarios, some workouts, some instruction from athletes, Navy SEALs, survival experts, and entrepreneurs all designed to help you walk away with some actionable tools, strategies, and skills so that you can be a better protector, provider, and presider over yourself, your family, and the people you care about.

You’re going to connect with 24 other men who want to succeed at high levels just like you do and, we’ll make sure to throw in a few surprises to keep you on your toes.

Again, head to www.orderofman.com/uprising to claim your spot. And, do it quickly because we are going to sell out soon.

“When that moment arises, take it. There’s greatness on the other side.” Tweet That— John Spera
